all ower the web
[0:05] I just showed you how to research the content
of your competitors and find some golden nuggets
[0:10] that you can easily replicate on your own blog.
[0:12] But you can only do this one competitor at a time.
[0:15] How cool would it be to research the entire
niche at once?
[0:19] Let me show you how you can do exactly that.
[0:21] We have a cool tool called Content Explorer,
which is basically a database of 846 million
[0:28] pieces of content, that Ahrefs crawler has
collected from all around the web.
[0:32] And I can enter any word into the search bar
and find all pieces of content that mention
[0:36] this word in their content, title or both.
[0:40] Let's continue with the word "cats" as our example.
[0:42] I want to find all pages from all around the
web that have the word "cats" in their title.
[0:48] Which results in over a million pages.
[0:50] Now, let's see how many of these pages get
over a thousand visits per month from Google.
[0:55] We have a filter for that here.
[0:56] And now we're down to slightly over 2,000
pages, that generate over a thousand monthly
[1:01] visits from Google.
[1:02] That's roughly 0.1% of all pages that mention
the word "cats" in their title.
[1:08] Which says a lot about how most of
the published content performs, right?
[1:12] But how many of these pages generate their
search traffic with no backlinks pointing at them?
[1:17] We have a filter for that too.
[1:19] It's called Referring domains.
[1:21] Let's put 0 into it.
[1:22] And noe I'm down to 63 pages only.
[1:25] Let's sort them by the amount of search
traffic to see the best ones on top.
[1:29] And if I scroll down a bit, I'll see an awesome article:
"The Best Flea Treatment for Cats for 2017."
[1:35] It gets almost 5,000 visits per month from Google
while having 0 backlinks!
[1:41] What an amazing opportunity!
[1:42] I can also click the Details button and see which
keywords bring search traffic to this article.
[1:47] Looks like it ranks really high for things like
[1:49] "best flea treatment for cats," "best flea medicine
for cats," "flea treatment for cats," and such.
[1:55] That's an amazing content opportunity that
took me less than a minute to discover.
[1:59] Here are a few more great articles from that list:
[2:01] "How to Calm a Cat in Heat," "Tips for Moving a
Cat Long Distance," "Safe Fruits For Your Cat."
[2:07] All of them get decent search traffic with 0 backlinks.
[2:11] And I only tried a single keyword - "cats"
- and only focused on articles with 0 backlinks
[2:17] and over 1,000 visitors from search.
[2:19] I can also try some other relevant keywords
like "kittens" and loosen my filters a bit,
[2:24] to get content ideas with a bit less traffic
and a few more backlinks.
[2:28] Which will give me vastly more results to explore.
[2:31] So how cool is that?
[2:32] As you can tell, Content Explorer tool is
a unique and insanely valuable tool,
[2:36] because it allows you to filter through
almost the entire Internet of content.
[2:40] And find what brings the most search traffic
with the least amount of backlinks.
[2:45] When I shared this trick with our Facebook
community, people were totally blown away
[2:49] and immediately used it to find great
content ideas for their sites.
[2:53] So hit pause and try this yourself.
[2:55] I'm sure you will find something cool for
your own blog too.
[2:58] And one last thing I have to mention is your
website's Domain Rating.
[3:02] Which represents the strength of the overall
backlink profile of your website.
[3:07] As a general rule, it can be challenging to
outrank websites that have high Domain Rating.
[3:12] For example, here you can see an article
from Huffington Post that is titled
[3:16] "The Top 100 Most Adorable and Cute Cat Names"
[3:19] It has 0 referring domains, but the Domain
Rating of huffingtonpost.com is 80.
[3:26] Whis is very high.
[3:27] So if the Domain Rating of your own website
is much smaller than that, like 60 or below,
[3:33] It is unlikely that your article will outrank
huffingtonpost.com
[3:36] I mean if both articles have 0 backlinks,
it is obvious that Google will pick the one,
[3:41] that was published on a stronger website.
[3:44] But if you build a bunch of quality backlinks
to your own article, you do have a chance
[3:48] to outrank even high-DR domains.
[3:50] Please also note that the numbers that
you see in Content Explorer are cached.
[3:54] I mean there's a small discrepancy in backlink
and traffic numbers for the same article in
[3:58] Site Explorer and Content Explorer.
[4:00] But that discrepancy shouldn't be too big,
as we update all numbers quite regularly.
[4:05] And this wraps up the 4 strategies that will
supply you with an almost never ending source
[4:10] of great content ideas.
[4:11] And now it's time to prioritise these
ideas in your content calendar.
