[0:00] Part #3. How to compete with the "big guys" in Google search results [0:04] Whatever industry you're in, the best search queries are most likely "taken" by someone already. [0:10] And that "someone" is usually a big established website that is better than you in every possible way. [0:16] They have a strong brand, full of credibility and trust. [0:19] They have a lot of resources for creating amazing content. [0:22] They have a big loyal audience to whom they can promote their content and get links from. [0:26] They have a huge advertising budget to reach insane amounts of people. [0:30] And to make matters worse, they already rank at the top of Google for all those juicy keywords [0:36] that you wish to rank for. [0:38] Which means that they get highly-relevant consistent traffic to their pages every single month. [0:44] Which means that some of these people will end up linking to these pages. [0:48] The mere fact that it ranks #1 in Google makes their page worthy of a link. [0:53] And then a consistent flow of new backlinks will obviously strengthen the leading position [0:58] of their pages in Google search results. [1:01] That is a very discouraging cycle, right? [1:04] I call it the "Vicious Cycle of SEO" [1:07] Take any page that ranks in Google top 3 for a popular keyword and put it into Ahrefs Site [1:11] Explorer tool. [1:12] Like this guide to keyword research from Moz. [1:15] Does it get a bunch of new backlinks every week because they actively promote it? [1:19] Of course not! [1:20] It gets all these new links on complete autopilot! [1:23] It ranks high in Google and therefore has a consistent flow of targeted visitors, many [1:29] of whom will link to it afterwards. [1:31] As you can see from the graph in Ahrefs, the pace at which this article aquires new backlinks [1:36] is quite high. [1:37] It would be almost impossible to keep up with them if you were building all your backlinks manually. [1:42] So how do you break into this Vicious Cycle of SEO and outrank those big guys? [1:47] Well, I'm afraid there's no way to do that. [1:50] Unless of course you're able to create a vastly better piece of content and you have enough [1:55] resources to reach a comparable amount of people with it. [1:57] This is the only way you stand a chance at building a comparable amount of backlinks [2:02] in a relatively short timeframe. [2:04] So the only advice I have for you is this. [2:07] Don't go after "big" keywords until you grow a big enough audience and accumulate [2:13] enough resources to effectively wrestle with whoever currently ranks at the top. [2:17] And besides, there's absolutely no reason to target highly-competitive search terms, [2:22] while there are tons of untapped opportunities to easily grow your search traffic. [2:26] In the previous lessons of this course I have shared quite a few great tips and strategies [2:31] on how to discover low-hanging content ideas that would bring you a ton of search traffic [2:36] with minumum effort. [2:37] But "minimum effort" doesn't mean "no effort at all". [2:41] Even those low-hanging content ideas will require some backlinks to get to the top of Google [2:46] and bring you the search traffic. [2:47] And, as we have previously discussed, you cannot just sit and wait for backlinks to come naturally. [2:53] You need to build them manually. [2:55] And that is exacly what we're going to cover in the very next lesson of this course. [2:59] Sounds good? Then I'll see you in Lesson #9.
