[0:00] this season marketing expert I have 14 [0:03] years of experience in digital marketing [0:05] battles with total beginner supercharged [0:07] with AI I have zero years of digital [0:10] marketing experience they'll face off [0:12] across three challenges and our expert [0:15] judges won't know who created what until [0:17] after they vote this is way harder than [0:19] I thought it's human versus machine in a [0:21] battle for marketing Supremacy my entire [0:24] career and livelihood and uh job is on [0:26] the line with this hey Liz lovely to [0:29] meet you and and apologies that I have [0:31] to destroy you you see there is more at [0:33] stake here than just my fragile little [0:35] ego as far as I'm concerned I'm fighting [0:37] for The Souls of marketing creatives [0:40] everywhere oh my God okay Ryan wish you [0:45] best of luck let the games begin in this [0:49] competition you are a digital marketer [0:51] hired by a famous Italian chef the [0:54] chef's main product is an online course [0:56] teaching people how to cook his [0:58] signature Italian dishes create a post [1:00] for the Italian Chef's social media feed [1:03] you have 30 minutes to complete the [1:05] challenge clock starts [1:07] [Music] [1:08] now potential starting line I've cooked [1:11] thousands of Italian dishes and one [1:13] still stumps me so we've introduced a [1:16] kind of curiosity hook at this point [1:17] hopefully people will care about that as [1:19] they're scrolling through a feed can you [1:22] create a social media graphic for [1:26] me oh my God okay something's loading we [1:30] want this post to feel like it's from an [1:33] Italian Nona it's her deepest darkest [1:35] secret nobody else has access to this [1:37] privileged information you know act [1:40] quickly to get this PDF recipe in [1:42] exchange for that I think we do [1:44] something useful for this website we can [1:45] probably ask for an email address or a [1:48] reshare or something like that oh [1:52] wow this is hilarious I mean it's cool [1:55] that like AI is producing these Graphics [1:57] but they are feeling a little bit like [2:00] the clip art that we used to use in word [2:04] I'm going to play around with a little [2:05] with it a little [2:08] bit really would help if I could spell [2:10] ravioli I'm I Will Learn by the end of [2:12] this exercise [2:15] ravioli this text it just doesn't feel [2:18] super authentic it doesn't read well to [2:22] me master the art of Italian cooking [2:25] school now and then I think we can [2:27] probably uh really Hammer this home by [2:29] listing some of the explicit benefits [2:31] that you will earn through downloading [2:34] this recipe you'll learn the secrets to [2:36] Silky pasta dough my top tip for Umami [2:40] rich bges and the one cooking tip I wish [2:43] I'd known a decade earlier I like it but [2:46] I don't love it so I made a few edits to [2:50] this I've taken out a few words that [2:52] might trigger some people and thinking [2:54] this is a bit spammy or a bit dodgy like [2:55] visit the secret page that was I think a [2:57] bit Overkill I think the thing I want to [2:59] do now is uh dig out a really great [3:02] looking uh ravioli picture this is [3:04] definitely an area now where AI has a [3:07] huge Advantage because if you are so [3:09] inclined you can generate amazing really [3:12] mouthwatering food images or product [3:14] photography or even images of people and [3:17] the only thing you have to watch out for [3:19] is occasional deformed hands or strange [3:22] faces in the [3:24] background it looks like it says Master [3:26] the art of palian Cooking School lots of [3:30] um errors in this graphic I'm not [3:33] feeling super great about this right now [3:35] how much time do I have no we found a [3:37] few pictures uh some of them look uh no [3:40] offense to this person but that looks [3:41] pretty terrible I wouldn't eat that uh [3:44] this one looks good I think we're [3:45] playing into this authenticity this [3:48] sense of uh of secrecy around cooking I [3:51] reckon this could perform well I like [3:53] this okay beautiful now let's work on [3:58] the caption [4:00] I didn't include any hashtags in this [4:03] post for the simple reason that it looks [4:06] and feels like marketing when people do [4:08] that and that is the opposite Vibe we [4:10] want to cultivate here AI will do 50 [4:14] hashtags uh and they'll all be terrible [4:16] # Italian cooking #y pasta # cooking [4:19] glasses # virtual cooking all right [4:21] where did these [4:23] hashtags come from are they [4:27] frequently searched so so you know most [4:30] social media posts use hashtags [4:32] generative AI will use hashtags but the [4:34] problem with any best practice is the [4:36] more people do it the less effective it [4:38] becomes so actually a lot of good social [4:40] media is doing things that are slightly [4:42] unusual becoming pattern interrupting [4:44] things that deviate from the status quo [4:48] rework the caption to be attention [4:53] grabbing dreaming of mastering authentic [4:55] Italian dishes that feels if I I don't [4:58] like dreaming for some reason okay [5:00] honestly I like the original that AI [5:03] gave me I'm going to go with that seeing [5:05] as I'm almost out of time [5:10] beautiful okay # Italian cooking [5:13] homemade pasta cooking classes virtual [5:16] cooking authentic Italian Nina's kitchen [5:19] pasta lovers learn to cook I've cooked [5:22] thousands of Italian dishes but one [5:24] still stumps me ravioli easy let's do it [5:29] all right ready one two three go number [5:36] two yes yes number two number two was [5:40] hands down better yeah I think the first [5:43] one was just a hard sales fish but the [5:46] intent on social media isn't so much to [5:49] buy or to join a $100 cooking class and [5:53] so without any warm-up conversion rates [5:55] would be extremely low now in marketing [5:57] people really want some authenticity so [6:00] everything is the same and if everything [6:01] is the same and everybody is an artist [6:03] and no one is an artist then a lot of [6:05] valuable things get [6:07] lost an ad's job is to be catchy enough [6:10] to get clicks and bring in the Right [6:12] audience write copy for a Google ad that [6:15] will get people to click on the chef's [6:19] course you have 15 minutes to complete [6:22] the challenge clock starts now that's [6:25] not a lot of time and uh in some ways [6:28] the shorter [6:30] the marketing copy is the harder it is [6:32] to write if AI was going to beat me [6:34] anywhere it would probably be this [6:36] challenge look like there's some [6:37] different types of ads okay I will just [6:40] go with the search ad these ads appear [6:42] at the top of Google searches results [6:44] all right we'll assume we're going to go [6:46] with this format we'll do a headline a [6:47] description 30 characters and then 90 [6:50] characters and that will be our [6:51] constraint I like that AI is telling me [6:54] that there's like a 30 character Max [6:56] limit I did not know that let's see how [6:59] connect as this is see this is the kind [7:01] of area where I think AI would be quite [7:03] helpful it doesn't always follow these [7:05] rules but when it does you can just tell [7:07] it to limit the ideas it generates to 30 [7:09] characters or 90 characters you don't [7:12] have to do any of this manual laborious [7:14] character counting rate me a Google ad [7:17] for [7:19] nalina cooking course I'm just starting [7:23] by writing out the objective in front of [7:26] me very good to always keep this front [7:27] of mind for this type of copy we have [7:29] have an end goal that we want to get to [7:31] and everything we write needs to be in [7:32] service of that end goal so they've come [7:34] up with these three headlines for me is [7:37] this [7:38] incorporating the most [7:41] effective SEO words let's refine the ad [7:45] copy to ensure we're maximizing its SEO [7:47] potential beautiful general rule it's a [7:50] good idea to delete repeated words if [7:53] you're looking for word economy and [7:55] brevity so we probably don't need to say [7:56] the word Italian three times in that [7:58] description is probably plenty okay so [8:01] now it almost feels like the SEO words [8:03] are like really being forced in and it [8:05] just doesn't feel super like authentic [8:08] but then again I don't know if Google [8:10] ads need it to be super authentic I'm [8:13] about halfway through time and I'm [8:15] feeling pretty good actually I've been [8:17] brainstorming a bunch of ideas and I [8:19] find these interesting I would probably [8:21] click some of these so I think that's a [8:23] good indicator that we're heading in the [8:24] right direction dropping it into the [8:26] challenge beautiful I definitely [8:29] psyched myself out a little bit Yeah [8:31] doing this it's so hard to know with [8:33] advertising this is where AI may have [8:35] the edge if it comes up with a gillion [8:37] different options we will [8:41] see submission one headlines Italy's [8:45] best food in your kitchen descriptions [8:48] online Italian cookery course taught by [8:50] a pro Chef Master authentic Italian [8:53] dishes online pasta course taught by a [8:56] pro Chef learn the secrets of authentic [8:58] Italian online F course taught by a pro [9:00] Chef virtual Italian cooking classes for [9:03] beginners and food lovers cook Italian [9:05] food from home call to action enroll now [9:08] or sign up today it's tough oh yeah you [9:11] were right it is harder there's less [9:13] context yeah yeah yeah which makes it [9:15] harder which I think it makes AI [9:18] actually great at they're starting to [9:20] Jumble together for me yeah all right [9:23] all right you ready ready 1 2 [9:28] 3 we both chose two which is AI right [9:33] I'm going to say it is AI oh wow no I [9:38] didn't know that I knew that it was AI [9:39] it was it was very clear that it was AI [9:42] why the second one was more direct and [9:45] with a Google ad I think that you do [9:47] need to be a little bit more direct so [9:48] also if you if you block the third if [9:51] you look at the first one from Ryan [9:53] Italy's best food in your kitchen [9:55] ravioli noi kacho Pepe it could be an ad [9:59] for [9:59] delivery Italian food delivery like [10:02] green Chef or whatever yeah I think that [10:04] AI is very good for for writing these [10:06] short ads like Google ads I think that [10:09] means rest in peace add [10:12] copywriters I'm just kidding I'm just [10:15] kidding and you know what like I'm not [10:16] an ad copywriter like that's not where [10:19] my expertise is and so like maybe they [10:21] would look at Ryan and say like that's [10:23] 20 times [10:25] better write a blog post to drive [10:27] traffic to the chef's website you you [10:29] have 2 hours to complete the challenge [10:31] clock starts now okay 2 hours seems like [10:34] a long time to write a blog post so [10:36] generally 2 hours is not very long to [10:39] write a good uh search optimize blog [10:41] post uh at least that's not very long [10:43] for a human to do it so I'm asking chat [10:45] BT what are people searching for when [10:47] learning to cook Italian [10:49] food looks like number one is classic [10:52] Italian recipes okay I'm going to say of [10:54] these which is the most popular search [10:59] how to make pasta from scratch okay CH [11:02] GPT just keeps giving me searches we're [11:04] at eight now okay they gave me eight I [11:07] just had an idea as I was uh outlining I [11:10] want to cover the specific recipes [11:13] techniques uh so why don't I dump those [11:16] into HFS keywords Explorer to see if [11:19] there are related longtail variations of [11:22] this that I can talk about and include [11:24] and maybe get a extra bit of search [11:26] volume uh off the back of this article [11:28] now all of these already have a great [11:30] volume so I think uh it's important to [11:32] include these a little bit too high [11:34] keyword difficulty potentially [11:36] considering our website but something [11:37] like how to make ru seems very promising [11:40] okay oh [11:42] no you've hit the free plan limit for [11:44] chat GPT responses will use another [11:48] model until your limit resets so what [11:51] we're going to do is have a look at uh [11:54] matching terms just to see if there are [11:55] any versions of this that we should [11:57] definitely include and what we can can [11:59] do is we can filter uh keyword [12:01] difficulty down to something more [12:03] manageable for us so let's say 30 and [12:05] let's put in the lowest Dr [12:07] filter 30 so websites that have a domain [12:13] rating of 30 or less show up in the top [12:17] five search results for all of these [12:19] keywords so that means if we target [12:21] these there's a very good chance that we [12:23] will rank as well since I'm going to [12:26] make pasta kind of the theme of this [12:30] blog post write me a blog post about [12:34] pasta for an online Italian cooking [12:38] school ooh love it mastering the art of [12:42] pasta a beginner's guide cute I like it [12:45] so one concern that I have right off the [12:48] bat is just like where is chat PT [12:52] getting this from I mean I don't I don't [12:54] want to plagiar eyes have to make pasta [12:57] sauce with tomato paste not very [12:59] authentic don't think we're going to [13:01] include that one H how to make Italian [13:03] tomato sauce that's a good one 100 [13:06] searches a month 17 keyword difficulty [13:09] informational intent so I'll probably [13:11] either work these just into the text as [13:13] I write or I may even include them as H3 [13:16] subhe headers if that feels like a [13:18] natural way of covering this information [13:19] Google tends to weight information in [13:21] headers slightly more highly than it [13:23] does in other parts of the uh article [13:26] text are there any errors in this blog [13:31] post okay let's go over step by step to [13:33] ensure there's no errors uh let's add [13:36] the [13:37] apostrophe I will say is this part's a [13:40] little time consuming like every time I [13:41] make an edit it just rewrites the [13:44] article one of the directions here is [13:45] salt the water I've never heard that [13:48] phrase before I feel like I would say [13:49] add salt to the water I'm just going to [13:51] ask is salt the water a common phrase [13:56] commonly used in cooking context [13:59] okay to make it more clear we could [14:02] revise it as generously salt the water [14:04] yes let's revise it thank you 1 hour to [14:08] go I want to write these next two [14:10] sections try and get a couple of images [14:12] and spend a bit of time on the title I [14:14] am really happy with this blog post I'm [14:16] going to copy and paste it okay [14:23] [Music] [14:27] beautiful 60 Seconds left even less than [14:30] that 30 seconds left my goodness we have [14:32] a whole article we've covered uh three [14:35] fundamental Italian cooking techniques [14:37] so Frito Ru and a nice tomato sauce uh I [14:40] think this is well searched optimized [14:42] we've got loads of great subtopics got [14:43] internal links uh external links got [14:46] meta description I think it's a good [14:48] title tag we've got we've got a nice [14:49] call to action at the end I even found [14:51] some Creative Commons imagery that we [14:53] could include just to make this look a [14:55] bit better and bit less of a wall of [14:58] text fingers crossed we will have to see [15:00] how this goes good luck Chad GPT I think [15:02] you're going to need it for this [15:06] one mastering the art of pasta your [15:09] ultimate guide to Italian cooking all [15:11] right that's number one number two [15:13] Master the three fundamental Italian [15:16] cooking techniques I know which one I [15:18] like better tfold do you yeah okay one [15:23] two 3 go C we both chose two [15:29] yes good job very very obvious yes did [15:33] you know yeah the writing is very fluffy [15:36] it doesn't really get into authentic [15:39] real stuff it gives like the most basic [15:42] recipes but not fundamental recipes and [15:45] another thing also is that every [15:47] sentence you know where it's going right [15:49] yeah the grammar is almost perfect but [15:51] in the other one it's more about [15:53] storytelling and more poetic I don't [15:55] really feel like I could learn anything [15:57] from this like I don't think that I to [15:59] master the art of pasta this person used [16:03] 11 exclamation points but the question [16:06] is always for me is it really that [16:09] exciting the second thing is that the [16:12] pitch at the end of the blog post was a [16:15] hard pitch for the Italian cooking [16:17] school and I'm personally of the belief [16:19] that you should try to bring them in [16:21] with a soft grasp and in the end there [16:23] was also a really giveaway it said [16:25] something about don't worry I've got you [16:28] covered and [16:29] every time I hear it this I get a little [16:31] bit sick in my mouth the Moment of Truth [16:34] has arrived our digital marketing [16:36] Champion is oh thank [16:39] God so Ryan you may have won this time [16:43] but let's do this challenge again next [16:45] year we'll see if AI is able to learn [16:48] and adapt and humanize itself a bit more [16:50] to be the best digital marketer
