[0:20] how to rank for any keyword in Google.
[0:22] And what I suggested is that you
[0:25] should build a lot of links to this page.
[0:27] So in this episode I want to show you
[0:30] how to rank...without links.
[0:33] So this is the post on the Ahrefs blog with the
[0:37] previous episode of the show.
[0:39] And as you can tell from the title of this post, my
[0:43] intent was to target the keyword "how to
rank number one in Google."
[0:48] Let's see how well this post ranks for this keyword.
[0:53] Let's scroll down to the bottom of this page,
[0:56] and you'll see that the post on Ahrefs blog ranks number 10 because the
[1:01] rest are Google Ads.
[1:03] But the funny thing is the previous search result.
[1:07] It's a SlideShare presentation that ranks right above us.
[1:11] Let's compare these two pages in Ahrefs' Site Explorer,
[1:16] and see if we can find something interesting.
[1:18] I'll start with the Ahrefs article.
[1:23] So I put it into Site Explorer and what I see
is that it has 13 backlinks from two
[1:31] referring domains, not much actually.
But let's see what we have for this
[1:37] SlideShare presentation.
[1:40] I will open another instance of Site Explorer.
[1:43] And here's the funny thing:
[1:46] it doesn't have any backlinks at all!
[1:49] In the previous episode of the show, I told you that you
should build more links than your
[1:55] competitors if you won't outrank them.
[1:58] So how come this SlideShare presentation doesn't
have any links at all, but it still ranks
[2:03] better than our post at Ahrefs' blog
that has 13 backlinks?
[2:08] And the answer is pretty much in front of you.
[2:11] It's the domain rating.
[2:13] As you can see, the domain rating of
Ahrefs' blog is 66,
[2:18] while the domain rating of Slideshare's 
website is 81, which is quite a bit bigger.
[2:25] And that's what helps it rank better, even
[2:28] without any backlinks pointing to the page.
[2:31] Domain rating is a very powerful ranking factor
and in fact, when SEOs can't rank for
[2:38] some keyword with their own website, they
might utilize powerful domains like
[2:44] SlideShare or YouTube, in order to hack
their way to the top of Google.
[2:50] And actually, if we go back to the search
results, you'll see that there's a
[2:56] youtube video ranking at spot number five.
[3:01] Let's see if this video has any links at all.
[3:06] Well actually, it does have
a single backlink, but as you can see the
[3:11] domain rating is totally insane and
that's what makes it easily rank at
[3:17] number five for a pretty competitive
keyword, "how to rank number one in google."
[3:23] So that's it guys. This is how you rank
in Google without any backlinks at all.
[3:29] You just need a solid domain rating to make it happen.
[3:33] But what's domain rating after all?
[3:35] It's the combined power of all backlinks
[3:38] pointing to all pages of your website.
[3:41] So when you build links to any individual
[3:44] pages on your website, this helps
improve your domain rating.
[3:49] And then when your domain rating is solid enough it,
may help you rank for some keyword
[3:54] without having any links pointing to the page.
