[0:00] chat gbt writes better content than
[0:03] humans you're trying to get
[0:05] fired
[0:08] psych we brought together a combined
[0:10] experience of over a hundred years in
[0:12] digital marketing in one room to expose
[0:14] some of the biggest myths in the
[0:15] industry oh this is a spicy one is SEO
[0:19] dead hell no is Google a search engine
[0:21] for Reddit Google has massively boosted
[0:24] the visibility of Reddit in a kind of
[0:26] eye-watering way let's uncover some of
[0:28] these myths social media is more
[0:30] important than having a website for
[0:32] small
[0:34] businesses depends but
[0:37] also it's not on your own domain it's
[0:39] not your your traffic borrowing traffic
[0:42] from social media like X LinkedIn
[0:45] whatever it's great to get started in my
[0:48] own consultant business I get more
[0:50] probably conversions from my social
[0:52] traffic than organic traffic but it
[0:54] generally 98% of the time that organic
[0:56] traffic is intent based and the the
[0:59] social traffic is just say hey look at
[1:01] this article I wrote oo clickbait you
[1:02] know chat PT writes better content than
[1:06] humans
[1:09] psych you're trying to get
[1:13] fired I with the caveat being it rites
[1:16] better content than most humans
[1:17] definitely a very skilled writer skilled
[1:19] content marketer I think could do a much
[1:21] better job but the reality is most
[1:23] people are not very skilled when it
[1:25] comes to content marketing most of the
[1:26] content on the internet kind of sucks
[1:28] actually the future of content mark
[1:29] marketing is really going to be skilled
[1:31] experts who are able to operate chat GPT
[1:34] at a high level I mean maybe better than
[1:36] some people probably better than I do
[1:38] I've tried chat GTP eight ways from
[1:40] Sunday for writing content and I can't
[1:42] stand it it's
[1:44] just and I think this is a very serious
[1:46] Point uh that I think Google is looking
[1:49] for more human-based content showing
[1:51] actual human experience it's just really
[1:53] hard to pull that out of chat GTP GPT
[1:56] GPT yeah what am I saying GTP GTP what
[1:59] is it you're GPT wait I okay I one I'm
[2:02] dyslexic so I don't think I'm he you're
[2:03] flopping the p and the T okay I believe
[2:05] you I but I'm still not hearing it I
[2:07] think subject matter experts blow AI out
[2:10] of the park 100% but if we're just
[2:13] talking about AI writing better content
[2:16] than humans like I I think it I think it
[2:19] does still we're getting hallucination
[2:21] still we're kind of getting aggregated
[2:23] things that don't quite make sense and
[2:26] making up things and not being able to
[2:28] like correctly site or Source things
[2:31] even if we've like you know been quite
[2:32] specific with the prompt and testing
[2:34] different variations of this I'm saying
[2:36] this in October 2024 who knows what it's
[2:39] going to be when you watch this online
[2:41] on YouTube Nobody visits the second page
[2:44] of
[2:48] Google we agree we agree no I I I I
[2:52] think search results are sometimes
[2:53] you're not finding what you want on the
[2:55] first page and you're definitely
[2:56] scrolling uh to the second page I think
[2:59] maybe even more more today than than in
[3:01] the past I don't know it's lower numbers
[3:03] but it's not no one yeah it's it's
[3:05] definitely not no one traffic traffic on
[3:07] that second page is minuscule compared
[3:09] to what you're going to get on the first
[3:10] page but people are still still
[3:12] scrolling down there and Google knows
[3:13] this they have the logs yep yeah you
[3:15] know I don't think nobody it really
[3:17] depends on the query and I think if it's
[3:19] a more research based query you're going
[3:22] to see a longer tale of clicks happen as
[3:26] people look for their information I up
[3:29] you SE console you know just filter it
[3:32] by query and go to everything plus 10
[3:34] there is a lot more traffic than you
[3:36] would think about when just trying to
[3:38] think you know in a linear I idea of
[3:40] like do I click through to the next page
[3:42] lots of folks do and at volume you can
[3:45] be able to verify this today because
[3:46] it's busted email marketing is
[3:51] outdated it's a channel it's useful I I
[3:54] mean in the right Market still plain old
[3:57] snail mail even I get way too many
[3:59] emails and a lot of them are bad but
[4:02] some of them are good and people are
[4:03] getting through and it's it's still an
[4:06] effective strategy for people who can do
[4:08] it right SEO is
[4:10] dead we be out of a job yeah
[4:14] exactly hell no not yet no uh SEO is not
[4:19] limited to just Google Search right
[4:23] basically like YouTube is a search
[4:24] engine eBay is a search engine Amazon is
[4:26] a search engine basically if there's any
[4:28] information that needs to be sorted then
[4:30] SEO will never die I think as well like
[4:32] SEO has always it's evolved it's changed
[4:35] over time it looks very different to how
[4:37] it looked five or 10 years ago but it
[4:39] still exists it's still a useful channel
[4:41] for companies companies are still going
[4:42] to invest in it there as long as there
[4:43] search engines there's going to be some
[4:45] form of SEO even you know even if it
[4:47] turns into AI optimization or something
[4:50] like that there's we got a long life of
[4:52] SEO ahead of us it's just not the same
[4:54] as it was 10 years ago yeah it's uh some
[4:56] of the metrics might change maybe you go
[4:58] more branding optimizing for llms but
[5:01] like some kind of optimization is still
[5:03] going to be there yeah absolutely blog
[5:06] content is
[5:08] dying it is spicy cuz your job depends
[5:11] on I literally I run the hatra blog so
[5:14] this is me talking myself out of a job
[5:16] now I wish this wasn't true people
[5:18] aren't writing on their blog as much
[5:20] it's zero people are writing on social
[5:22] media they're writing these huge post we
[5:24] freaking love blog posts we love reading
[5:27] them we love when someone publishes
[5:28] something that so we can share it on
[5:29] social media I mean it's it's the
[5:31] formats are changing it's not that
[5:32] content isn't being created but uh
[5:34] especially like Jin Z younger folks or
[5:36] my wife uh video is their go-to uh
[5:39] social media it's it's blogs not
[5:42] Everyone likes to read the web has
[5:44] become so commercial that if we're not
[5:46] selling a product on a page a lot of
[5:48] people just don't want to do it yeah I
[5:49] do think the tide is changing right
[5:51] people do not care about blogs in the
[5:53] way they used to they don't care about
[5:54] Company brands in the way they used to
[5:56] there's a big fragmentation of uh
[5:58] attention happening people care more
[6:00] about individual creators different
[6:02] types of content on like you know social
[6:04] networks that kind of thing from like a
[6:06] conversion standpoint is that we have so
[6:08] many resources available to us now and
[6:10] something like video is much easier to
[6:13] consume and to understand like you can
[6:14] do it very passively whereas like if
[6:16] you're reading for most people like you
[6:18] really got to think about what you're
[6:19] reading and consuming so there's still
[6:20] room for blog content but maybe not the
[6:23] uh type that most companies make today
[6:25] Google ads are bad for users in Google
[6:27] search
[6:30] uh I don't think they're necessarily bad
[6:33] I sometimes think there are way too many
[6:34] of them but the product ads are
[6:37] extremely useful in general for like
[6:39] local service again pretty useful
[6:42] sometimes yeah especially when I'm
[6:44] looking for a specific company and I see
[6:46] three or four different competitor ads
[6:48] above that and I can't get to the result
[6:50] that I want because Google allows you to
[6:52] just buy those spaces no matter how
[6:54] irrelevant you are what confuses me
[6:56] sometimes the product ads can find
[6:58] exactly what I want but then in Google
[7:00] search they can't find what I want and
[7:02] they're like what are you doing I know
[7:03] you can find it why don't you deliver
[7:05] that to me you know in the organic
[7:07] results Google is a search engine for
[7:13] Reddit o
[7:16] oo o Google's got a big stake in this
[7:20] like they wanted to funnel traffic
[7:21] through this and look like for the most
[7:24] part it would really feel like you know
[7:26] this is the way that it is like it's
[7:28] like a search engine for for Reddit but
[7:30] is that the larger picture not really I
[7:33] do think that the future of of search
[7:36] will be very different and the $60
[7:39] million deal that Google and Reddit have
[7:42] is a very interesting partnership where
[7:45] I think Google is looking at that user
[7:48] data and using it to train their models
[7:51] to understand how topics are evolving
[7:55] yeah I mean Reddit just dominates you
[7:57] know the top of serps I would like this
[7:59] to be true but that's that's what I'm
[8:00] seeing I I'm with you but I think that's
[8:02] like user driven like myself when I'm
[8:04] doing research what am I going to buy I
[8:07] don't trust any of those affiliate
[8:08] marketers at the top of the results
[8:10] though I will go add Reddit or even
[8:12] Discord but yeah I think heavily
[8:14] favoring Reddit right now yes uh but
[8:17] specifically for Reddit no but like they
[8:19] they have all the queries they see the
[8:21] refinement where people are literally
[8:22] adding like Reddit site reddit.com Etc
[8:25] to the results and uh it is what users
[8:27] want from them right now for for many uh
[8:29] markets not for everything though I mean
[8:31] this is obviously this is like I hope
[8:33] this is a temporary State of Affairs but
[8:34] obviously Google has massively boosted
[8:36] the visibility of Reddit in a kind of
[8:38] eye-watering way I was looking at some
[8:40] of our rankings on H refs thinking hey
[8:42] why is that article decline Reddit post
[8:44] at the top of every Ser so at the moment
[8:46] it does feel like yeah they're unfairly
[8:49] promoting user generated content from
[8:51] Reddit right now like Google is is
[8:54] cendon for Reddit right I mean you see
[8:55] that everywhere all over the place but I
[8:57] think historically up until this point
[8:59] it hasn't been and hopefully within the
[9:02] next 12 to 24 months it's not anymore um
[9:06] but we know the relationship that they
[9:07] have and we'll just kind of see where it
[9:09] goes I guess Google has to deal with an
[9:11] influx a crazy influx of AI generated
[9:14] content and perhaps one short-term way
[9:16] to deal with that is to elevate user
[9:18] generated content uh at least that's you
[9:20] know passing the onus of content
[9:22] moderation onto other companies that
[9:24] aren't Googled so yeah they may just be
[9:26] leveraging you Reddit for now until they
[9:28] create their own user generated content
[9:31] experience ATS is too
[9:34] [Music]
[9:36] expensive you get that free account with
[9:39] you connect uh Google search console
[9:41] which is great the starter plan is super
[9:44] affordable for most people but I
[9:45] understand certain parts of the world
[9:47] that even that starter level is too too
[9:49] much money I come from long SEO software
[9:51] background there's always going to be
[9:53] people who can't afford and you want to
[9:54] be able to as reach as many people as
[9:56] you can but I think it's good value for
[9:57] the money and I'm not getting paid to sa
[9:59] that
[10:00] you can pay me later as an agency I
[10:03] think it is the best tool on the market
[10:05] for the price and full transparency I'm
[10:07] about to RIT 50 grand for hre's
[10:10] Enterprise this year and I'm happy to
[10:12] pay that and he doesn't even work at H
[10:14] refs that's amazing you know no bias
[10:17] there I think if you run a business it's
[10:19] excellent tool to pay for Google
[10:21] intentionally lies to web Masters oh
[10:23] this is a spicy one
[10:30] Google did say things that you know that
[10:33] were not exactly as they were but if I
[10:35] was Google I would not give say like hey
[10:38] you have to do exactly this and this and
[10:39] this and then you'll be able to
[10:40] manipulate our rankings like I would I
[10:42] would say get lost get get lost leave
[10:45] meone what do you mean um saying that
[10:47] they weren't tracking clicks but they in
[10:50] the you know the Chrome histograms like
[10:52] they absolutely are tracking clicks and
[10:54] using uh a lot of information from that
[10:57] I think that they would have answered
[10:59] them with the information that they had
[11:01] that was best to them at the time and
[11:03] they are thinking about what is going to
[11:05] be helpful to a large pool of uses
[11:08] intentionally lies I mean yeah when the
[11:10] the antitrust trial came out uh they
[11:12] said they had a policy I don't think the
[11:14] policy was to lie but it certainly led
[11:16] to misleading about use of Click data so
[11:19] I I don't think they would classify it
[11:20] as lying but I think that kind of was an
[11:23] intentionally the end result and I think
[11:25] a lot of people felt hurt and burned by
[11:27] that but I think they were put in just
[11:28] an unfortunate position where they had
[11:31] to mislead us about things that they
[11:34] probably wouldn't want to otherwise so I
[11:35] don't necessarily think they try to like
[11:37] lie but I definitely agree that there's
[11:39] not always uh the absolute truth that
[11:42] maybe comes out yeah so I I think yeah
[11:44] their their intention is not so much to
[11:46] lie to people at the at the same time
[11:49] they don't want to reveal you know the
[11:51] signals that you know are actually
[11:53] they're using in their algorithm right
[11:54] and we know that their algorithm is is
[11:56] so Advanced now there is you know time
[11:59] times where people from Google will come
[12:01] on like record and say links don't
[12:04] matter they're not important right you
[12:05] know and and the whole SEO world just
[12:07] kind of goes crazy when they hear that
[12:09] kind of stuff right because we know that
[12:11] that is not necessarily you know true
[12:14] right so um but hey I think it's just
[12:16] propaganda and it's just something that
[12:18] we have to live with yeah propaganda is
[12:20] a great word I think yeah YouTube will
[12:22] drive more business value in 5
[12:25] years ooh I like disagreement yeah yeah
[12:29] I'm sort of with you it could go either
[12:31] way well YouTube even be a thing there's
[12:33] some antitrust stuff going but in
[12:35] general I think video will drive a lot
[12:37] more value up up incoming Generations
[12:39] it's their preferred format I I want I I
[12:42] believe that and I want to believe
[12:44] that's true with YouTube we saw a lot of
[12:46] content creators after the helpful
[12:48] content update and things like that move
[12:50] to YouTube I'm just worried about the
[12:53] the inchid ification of Future YouTube
[12:56] Just Google being you know a rent Seeker
[12:59] on that and just extracting value and
[13:01] then ruining YouTube as well
