[0:00] I'd say that most SEOs love Google Chrome extensions. [0:03] But having too many extensions doesn't necessarily equate to higher productivity. [0:07] In fact, this can lead to slowing down your computer. [0:10] So with so many options, the challenge is in choosing only the ones you actually need. [0:16] Well, I've already done a lot of the hard work for you, so today, I'm going to show you [0:20] what I think are the best Chrome extensions for your everyday SEO needs. [0:24] Stay tuned. [0:25] [music] [0:29] What's up SEOs? [0:30] Sam Oh here with Ahrefs, the SEO tool that helps you grow your search traffic, research [0:34] your competitors and dominate your niche. [0:36] Now, the extensions I'm about to share with you are in no particular order. [0:40] And this list is by no means complete. [0:42] Instead, I'm going to share 1-3 extensions that help with common SEO categories. [0:47] And those are link building, keyword research, on-page SEO, and technical SEO. [0:53] And of course, I'll show you how they work and share a use case or two. [0:57] So let's get started with some Chrome extensions for link building. [1:00] The first one I use is Hunter. [1:02] Hunter is an email finding tool and in I've found it to be the best one to find emails [1:06] quickly and accurately. [1:08] Just visit a page, and click on the icon in the extension bar. [1:12] You'll then see a list of associated names and email addresses that Hunter has found [1:16] somewhere on the web. [1:18] Now, let's say you were reading about YouTube SEO and you wanted to contact the author. [1:22] Just click on the Hunter icon, then enter the first and last name of the person in the search box. [1:27] Hunter will try and return a result either with scraped data or in this case, their [1:32] best guess for the person. [1:33] You can click this icon to save them in the Hunter web app [1:36] or click the email address to copy it to your clipboard. [1:40] The next extension in this category is Linkclump. [1:43] This tool lets you open, copy or bookmark multiple links at the same time. [1:48] The way I use it is when building links, specifically when vetting prospects. [1:52] So let's say you're in the Backlinks report in Ahrefs' Site Explorer and you want to visit [1:56] these three pages to see if they'll be good link prospects. [2:00] With Linkclump installed, just hold down the letter Z and then drag your cursor over the links. [2:05] Let go and it'll open the pages in a new tab [2:08] so it's just a matter of qualifying or disqualifying them from your list. [2:12] And if you don't want to open them in new tabs, [2:14] you can create new actions in the extension Options menu. [2:18] So you'll see that I've set another one here to copy the URLs when I hold down X [2:23] and drag my mouse. [2:24] So let's say we're in Google and looking for resource page link opportunities. [2:28] And when you visit this page, you'll see that the page has links to some external resources. [2:33] So I'll hold down X, and drag my mouse over the links. [2:36] Then I can take it into a tool like Ahrefs' Batch Analysis, paste them in there, [2:41] and get SEO metrics on all of these pages. [2:44] From here, I might check out the backlink profiles of these pages and see if they've [2:48] built other resource links, which I could then go after. [2:52] Finally, we have the NoFollow extension. [2:54] This extension will put a box around all links that are nofollowed on a page. [2:58] You can use this when you're looking for guest posting opportunities. [3:01] So just visit a post on a site you want to write for, [3:04] and scroll through it to see if all or most of the links are nofollowed. [3:08] If they are, it probably won't be worth your time to write for their blog if link building is your goal. [3:14] The next extension is my absolute favorite, which kind of fits into an "all-in-one" category… [3:20] P.S. I'm completely biased... [3:22] It's Ahrefs' SEO Toolbar. [3:24] Our extension allows you to see keyword, backlink, and organic traffic data right inside Google SERPs. [3:31] Just enter your query, and you'll see keyword metrics under the search bar like search volume, [3:35] CPC, Keyword Difficulty scores, and more. [3:39] On top of that, you'll see estimated search traffic and the number of backlinks at both [3:43] page and domain levels. [3:45] When you click one of the numbers, it'll open up the respective report in Ahrefs where you [3:49] can continue your analysis. [3:51] The toolbar is also visible on any page you visit and you'll see SEO metrics there too. [3:57] Now, in order to see this data, you'll need an Ahrefs account. [4:00] But we've also added some free features like a Broken Link Checker and an On-Page Analysis tool, [4:06] which you can use by clicking the icons here. [4:09] A freemium option for keyword research would be Surfer SEO's Keyword Surfer extension. [4:14] Just enter a query in Google, and you'll see global search volumes and country-specific [4:19] search volume. [4:20] And they have a couple other cool features like keyword ideas in the sidebar and domain [4:24] level data like estimated search traffic and number of backlinks. [4:28] I'm not 100% sure how or where they get their traffic and backlinks data, but it feels a bit off to me. [4:34] For example, they estimate Amazon.com's search traffic to be 46.9 million and total "quality backlinks" [4:42] to be just over 700,000. [4:44] And the numbers seem pretty low for me since we've found over 3 billion live links for Amazon's domain, [4:50] and estimate their search traffic to be 714 million, which are usually under-estimations. [4:58] But I wouldn't hold it against them, the company focuses more on on-page SEO and from what I've heard, [5:03] they do a great job. [5:05] Speaking of on-page SEO, the best standalone Chrome extension I've found for that is SEO Minion. [5:11] SEO Minion is an extension that's great for quick on-page spot-checks. [5:16] Just visit a page and click on the Minion icon in your extensions bar. [5:19] You'll then have a handful of options to choose from. [5:22] So you can do a basic on-page analysis where you'll see information like the Title, Description, [5:27] Canonical URL, and Meta Robots tags. [5:30] And below that, you'll see a breakdown of all heading, open graph, and Twitter tags. [5:35] You can also do other things like highlight all links on the page, check for broken links, [5:40] see if any Hreflang tags exist, and more. [5:43] Another cool feature is that the icon may have text written over it, like "redir". [5:49] And this means the page you visited has redirects. [5:52] You can then see all hops that took place by clicking on the icon and looking down here. [5:58] The next category is page speed and I've got two extensions for you. [6:02] The first is Lighthouse. [6:04] Lighthouse is an open source tool made by Google. [6:07] It's purpose is to help improve the performance, quality, and correctness of your web apps. [6:12] Just visit a webpage and hit the Lighthouse icon. [6:15] Then click Generate report. [6:17] It'll run some tests and once it's done loading, a report will pop-up showing scores for various [6:22] categories like Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices, SEO, and PWA. [6:29] And below, you'll see suggestions on what you should do to improve your page for each category. [6:34] Now, if this report looks familiar to you it's because they use a similar report in PageSpeed Insights. [6:40] Now, if you want to see the actual time it takes for a page to load, there's a neat little extension [6:45] called Page Load Time. [6:46] Just visit a page, and it'll show you in the extensions bar how long it took for the page to load. [6:52] And if you click the icon, you'll see a breakdown of where that time was spent. [6:56] The next extension is called Window Resizer, which is a great tool to test mobile friendliness. [7:02] Window resizer allows you to resize the browser's window to specific resolutions in two clicks. [7:08] For example, if you want to test the mobile design and experience for a page on an iPhone 6, [7:13] just click the icon in the extensions bar and choose the iPhone 6 resolution. [7:18] Want to see it on an iPad? [7:20] Just do the same thing, but this time, choose iPad. [7:23] These are the Chrome Extensions I use regularly in my SEO processes. [7:27] But I know there are a lot of other great extensions out there. [7:30] So let me know in the comments which Google Chrome Extensions you think are must-haves for SEOs. [7:36] And if you enjoyed this video, make sure to like, share and subscribe for more actionable [7:40] SEO and marketing tutorials. [7:42] I'll see you in the next one.
