[0:00] Welcome to the lesson #4.
[0:02] In this lesson I'm going to solve the common
struggle of finding great content ideas for your blog.
[0:07] So that you will never have to worry about it again.
[0:10] So here's the agenda for this lesson:
[0:12] I have four sources of great content ideas for you.
[0:15] These four will be enough to fill your content
calendar for a full year ahread, I promise.
[0:20] And then we'll talk about prioritising your
list of content ideas, and decide which of
[0:24] them will have the highest impact on your business.
[0:27] So let's go.
[0:28] Part 1: How to discover great content ideas by
studying your niche
[0:32] Regardless of the niche that your business falls into,
[0:35] be it business consulting, health care,
[0:37] insurance, photography or anything else.
[0:39] The chances are a ton of people are talking
about it online.
[0:43] There might be forums or different online communities, where your ideal customers are hanging out
[0:48] There might also be groups on Facebook, LinkedIn, Reddit or Slack.
[0:52] And there might be some sites where people leave
their Reviews about relevant products or services.
[0:57] In other words, there's no shortage of places
online, where you can go and watch your target
[1:01] audience communicate and speak their mind.
[1:04] Even Reddit alone can supply you with enough
content ideas to keep you busy for months.
[1:08] There's a subreddit for almost anything.
[1:11] You're in business of selling knives?
[1:13] No problem, let's search for "knives" on Reddit.
[1:15] And I see two cool subreddits right away:
[1:18] r/knives/ and r/knifeclub/.
[1:20] It took me just a few minutes of browsing
these subreddits to find a few great ideas
[1:24] for blog posts:
[1:25] But let's not forget what we learned in lesson #3:
[1:28] We need to make sure that people are actually
searching for these topics in Google,
[1:32] estimate the total search traffic potential, see
if there's a parent topic that we could target,
[1:37] and finally look at the number of linking
websites among the top-ranking pages.
[1:41] So let's put these three topic ideas from Reddit
into Ahrefs' Keywords Explorer for a quick research.
[1:46] And immediately one of them seems promising.
[1:49] I see an article at knifeinformer.com titled
"The Best Gentleman's Pocket Knife" and it
[1:54] gets almost 400 visits per month in the US
while only having one link from one website.
[2:00] And the rest of the search results don't seem very
competitive based on how many backlinks they have.
[2:05] How cool is that?
[2:06] It took me just a few minutes to find an awesome
article idea, that has quite decent traffic potential
[2:11] and a tiny amount of links.
[2:13] Guess how many content ideas you will find
if you browse Reddit for like two hours?
[2:17] And Reddit is just one of the wide variety
of places around the web where you can go
[2:21] and study what your target audience is talking about.
[2:24] In fact, amazing content ideas can come from
almost any source that is somehow related
[2:28] to your business!
[2:29] This one time I was browsing the book store
in the airport, while waiting for my flight..
[2:34] And saw a magazine, which had a title too
good to ignore it:
[2:37] "How to setup online business"
[2:39] So I immediately bought it.
[2:40] Not because I was hoping to learn anything
new from it, but because this was the magazine
[2:45] that my target audience was reading.
[2:47] And therefore it could help me understand
them better.
[2:50] This is how this magazine ended up on my work
desk and I was browsing it whenever I wanted
[2:55] to procrastinate for a while.
[2:56] That's how I stumbled upon this article: "Search
engines: how to get listed"
[3:00] Seriously? People struggle with that?
[3:03] With over seven years of experience in SEO, I could
not understand how someone could not know this.
[3:09] So I pulled Ahrefs' Keywords Explorer tool
and entered that headline there.
[3:12] I checked the top-ranking results and I was
totally blown away by the amount of search
[3:17] traffic that I saw coming to one of the
top-ranking articles.
[3:20] Over 11,000 visits per month from the US
alone and 18,000 visits per month globally.
[3:27] And the top keyword of this article is "submit
website to search engines."
[3:31] Looks like this is the most popular search query
that people are using to search for this topic.
[3:36] And it's search volume is 1,400 searches
per month in the US alone.
[3:41] I thought this was a great topic for us to cover at
Ahrefs blog, because people who are looking to submit
[3:46] their websites to search engines are actually
looking to get traffic from search engines.
[3:50] And that was a perfect opportunity to introduce
them to Ahrefs tools.
[3:54] So guess who published a detailed guide on
that topic two months ago?
[3:58] And today we already rank at position #8 for the main
search query - "submit website to search engines."
[4:04] Which is the bottom of the front page of Google
search results.
[4:06] And in just two months from the publish date, this
post has already brought us almost a thousand
[4:11] vistors from Google search.
[4:13] Which is quite a decent result for such a
short timeframe.
[4:15] So I hope this was a good example to illustrate
how studying your niche and getting in the heads
[4:20] of your potential customers helps you to
create highly relevant content on your blog
[4:24] and get targeted traffic from Google.
[4:26] And before we move on to the next strategy,
I suggest you to pause this video and take action.
[4:31] Search on Reddit & Facebook for relevant
communities where your target audience
[4:34] is hanging out.
[4:35] Spend at least 10 minutes browsing each
of these communities
[4:39] and look for things that bother people the most
and the language they use to describe them;
[4:43] Whenever something strikes you as a great
idea for an article on your blog, don't forget
[4:47] what you've leaned in the previous lesson and
test this content idea for search traffic potential
[4:53] and ranking difficulty.
[4:54] Try to find at least three cool article ideas,
before you move on to the next strategy
[4:58] that I'm about to show you.
[5:00] And just in case you need more guidance in
researching your niche and getting into the
[5:04] heads of your pontential customers, we have
a great article at Ahrefs blog just about that.
[5:09] Make sure to check it out.
