[0:00] Part 3. Busting the "publish more often" myth [0:04] That's probably my favorite part of this lesson. [0:06] What I love the most about SEO traffic, is that you don't have to publish a lot of content, [0:11] but still can get tons of traffic every single month. [0:15] Here at Ahrefs we have a rather small team working on our blog. [0:18] There's just two people in-house and two freelance writers. [0:22] And we rarely publish more than one article per week. [0:26] If I put our blog URL into Ahrefs Content Explorer tool and pick the last 30 days, [0:31] it will only show me two articles. [0:33] But look at our traffic from Google for the past 30 days. [0:36] It is growing quite consistently. [0:38] That's because we don't have a nonsense goal to publish a certain amount of articles every week. [0:43] Our goal is to create content around very specific keywords, closely related to our business, [0:49] and make our content rank high in Google for these keywords so that it would bring us new customers. [0:55] In fact, you can build your entire business around a single article. [0:59] I have a great example for you. [1:01] Take a look at this article from healthline.com titled, "How to lose weight fast." [1:06] If I put the URL of this article into Ahrefs' Site Explorer tool, I will see that it gets over [1:10] 300,000 visitors from Google every single month. [1:15] Let me take just a few seconds to note that the traffic number that you see in Ahrefs is just an estimation. [1:20] We have a monstrous database of over 400 million keywords, that we use to calculate organic traffic of [1:27] different websites. [1:28] But clearly there are many more keywords that people might put into Google. [1:32] So the organic traffic number that you see in Ahrefs is just an estimation. [1:36] And the actual Google traffic to a target website or URL would usually be about 2 or 3 times bigger. [1:43] So please keep that in mind when using Ahrefs for traffic estimates. [1:46] Ok, speaking of the keywords that Ahrefs is tracking. [1:49] Based on our records, that article I just showed you ranks for over 9,000 keywords. [1:54] Let me click that number and see what they are: [1:57] "how to lose weight," "how to lose weight fast," "lose weight fast," etc. [2:01] Just think about it. [2:03] Every month well over 300,000 people find this article while searching for weight loss [2:08] advice in Google. [2:09] That's a huge business opportunity right there. [2:12] Even if you convert half of a percent of all these people into customers, that's over a thousand [2:17] customers every month, which is clearly a ton of money. [2:21] But this example is of course an outlier, because it's quite rare for a single article [2:25] to get that much traffic from Google. [2:27] And yet, why force yourself to publish dozens of articles every month, when you can focus [2:32] your efforts on creating just a few keystone articles, make them rank in Google and get [2:37] a passive stream of prospective customers as a result. [2:40] But there's more! [2:41] Viral traffic is mostly a gamble. [2:43] You cannot know upfront if your article will take of or not. [2:46] You can only guess. [2:47] And if it does take off, you never know how much traffic this will bring you. [2:51] But SEO traffic is predictable. [2:53] In fact, I just showed you how to take any article and estimate it's search traffic potential [2:58] with the help of Ahrefs. [3:00] Whatever the topic you're going to cover on your blog, [3:03] just put it into Google, grab the URLs of the top-ranking articles, and plug them [3:08] into Ahrefs, to see how much traffic they get and what keywords they rank for. [3:12] These traffic estimates will help you make educated data-driven decisions and better [3:18] prioritize your budget, efforts and resources. [3:20] And we're about to cover both the planning and the execution in the further lessons of this course. [3:26] The tactics and strategies that you're about to learn will give you a massive competitive [3:30] advantage over your rivals. [3:31] I promise. [3:32] But there's one last thing left to discuss, before we dive deep into SEO.
