lesson in our affiliate marketing course.
[0:04] In this lesson, we're going to talk about
the two things you need to get started
[0:08] with affiliate marketing.
[0:09] The first is a property or platform.
[0:12] A platform is simply a place where
you can recommend your links.
[0:16] So that might be your own
website or YouTube channel.
[0:19] Now, creating either of these is pretty
straightforward so we won't go into
[0:22] things like how to make an affiliate
website because this course is about
[0:26] the actual marketing of an affiliate site.
[0:29] The second thing you'll need is
relevant and consistent traffic.
[0:33] Relevant traffic means that you're attracting
visitors to your website that are interested
[0:38] in a topic and ideally want
to make a purchase soon.
[0:42] And one of the most important parts
to getting relevant traffic is by creating
[0:46] content, which will house information
as well as your affiliate links.
[0:51] So that might be reviews of products, best
of comparison lists, and how-to articles.
[0:57] We'll talk about how you can come up
with these topics in a later module.
[1:00] As for getting consistent traffic, much of that
will come down to where you get your traffic from.
[1:06] Three of the most popular channels are
social media, ads, and search engines.
[1:11] Now, social traffic is typically inconsistent
because social media networks are designed
[1:16] to surface new content.
[1:19] But many affiliate pages can actually
be somewhat evergreen.
[1:22] So if you don't have a significant following
and brand, I wouldn't count on social media
[1:27] as a reliable primary source
for traffic to an affiliate site.
[1:31] Now, ads can be great because you
can get highly relevant traffic fast.
[1:36] But you have to pay for every single
person who clicks on your ad.
[1:40] So unless you're a part of a very high-paying
affiliate program and you have the expertise
[1:46] with ads and conversion rate optimization,
I'd stay away from ads because you'll find
[1:51] yourself underwater fast.
[1:54] Now, search traffic is free,
consistent and passive.
[1:57] And the way you get search traffic is
through a marketing method called
[2:01] search engine optimization, or SEO.
[2:04] It's the primary traffic source I recommend
and it's what many multi-million dollar
[2:09] affiliate websites rely on.
[2:11] We'll go much deeper into the tactical and
strategic elements of creating content and
[2:17] getting relevant and consistent traffic in
a later module but first, you need to know
[2:22] whether the reward will be worth the effort.
[2:24] So in the next lesson we're going to talk
about how to make money with affiliate
[2:28] marketing and how much you can actually make.
