[0:00] invest in the S&P 500 probably the most
[0:03] common investment in place and it's
[0:05] attractive because you get exposure to
[0:07] the top 500 us companies in a single
[0:09] fund without stress no research and the
[0:12] S&P has produced an annualized average
[0:15] return of around 10% over the past 66
[0:18] years now as I was looking through the
[0:20] stocks in the S&P I noticed something
[0:22] interesting just five companies which is
[0:25] only about 1% of the bunch make up
[0:28] around 23% of the portfolio
[0:30] and those same companies just so
[0:33] happened to have the most visited
[0:34] websites in the world based on Google
[0:37] traffic now I don't know if it was the
[0:39] three zps of non-alcoholic beer talking
[0:41] but I couldn't help but wonder what if
[0:43] we threw together a portfolio from the
[0:45] top 100 websites with the most Google
[0:47] traffic what would that even look like
[0:49] what kind of return would it have
[0:50] produced over the past 5 years 2 years
[0:53] or even just the last 6 months and how
[0:55] would my custom portfolio of Google
[0:57] traffic stocks compare against some of
[0:59] the most popular Assets in the world
[1:01] like the coveted S&P 500 I went on a
[1:04] mission to find out if using Google
[1:06] search data this way could beat the S&P
[1:08] 500 and after diving into the data let's
[1:11] just say my do Hit the Floor now before
[1:14] we continue a few quick disclaimers this
[1:16] is not investment advice my numbers
[1:18] haven't been audited and the nature in
[1:19] which I pick these stocks is speculative
[1:21] this is not a correlation study seek
[1:23] advice from a financial professional to
[1:24] understand the associated risks now
[1:27] let's dig into the numbers starting with
[1:28] our 5-year investment time frame to give
[1:31] you a decent Benchmark of how my Google
[1:33] traffic stocks portfolio would have
[1:35] performed we need to compare them to
[1:36] other popular assets like these ones and
[1:39] over the same time period it looks like
[1:41] most of these had a pretty solid run
[1:43] with the S&P 500 giving you a return of
[1:46] almost 80% turning
[1:49] $1,000 into
[1:51] $1,800 passively in less than 5 years
[1:56] sign me up now where do you think our
[1:59] website stocks F in here well in total
[2:02] 16 of the 100 websites made it into our
[2:04] Google traffic stocks portfolio and
[2:07] these are all household names like
[2:09] Amazon Apple Facebook Netflix and lots
[2:12] and lots of big us companies and had I
[2:14] invested $1,000 split evenly amongst our
[2:18] 16 Google traffic portfolio stocks
[2:21] around 5 years ago it'd be worth
[2:26] $1,867
[2:27] 194 for a return of
[2:30] 86.7 n% beating the returns from the S&P
[2:34] 500 by around 7% That's right it was the
[2:38] third best performing asset from our
[2:41] list crazy right now of the 16 stocks in
[2:44] our web traffic portfolio Apple was by
[2:47] far the best performing stock with an
[2:49] over 250% gain over the 5-year period
[2:53] and looking at Apple's organic traffic
[2:54] over time it's clear that they
[2:56] prioritized organic traffic growth
[2:58] starting from around March 2019 roughly
[3:01] the same time we hypothetically bought
[3:04] the stock and if we reverse engineer
[3:06] exactly where this growth and traffic
[3:07] came from you'll learn that they created
[3:10] their apps. apple.com subdomain in 2019
[3:14] which sends them a cool 150 million
[3:17] monthly visits today which by the way is
[3:20] roughly 33% of Apple's total organic
[3:23] traffic according to HF site Explorer
[3:26] and they pulled this off by ranking for
[3:28] well-known company names and pop apps
[3:30] now because tons of people search for
[3:32] these names every month they're managing
[3:35] to snag a healthy chunk of that search
[3:37] traffic which I'm sure leads to more app
[3:39] downloads and coincidentally as organic
[3:42] traffic to the App Store took off
[3:44] payments to Apple's app developers
[3:46] accelerated too and basically as app
[3:49] developers Rak in more cash so too does
[3:52] Apple now on top of their App Store
[3:54] success Apple expanded globally opening
[3:56] an online store in India in September
[3:58] 2020 in this move skyrocketed local
[4:01] organic traffic in India and since most
[4:04] of these searches are for Apple products
[4:06] one might guess that the traffic was
[4:08] buyer focused giving us a peak into the
[4:11] demand for Apple Goods in India oh and
[4:13] by the way Apple's Revenue in India grew
[4:16] 42% year on-ear in 2023 now the company
[4:19] with the biggest loss in our 5-year
[4:21] Google traffic stocks portfolio was Trip
[4:23] Advisor that lost a total of around 375%
[4:27] of its stock value now trip advis 's
[4:30] organic traffic has also grown by a bit
[4:32] since 2019 although mostly range-bound
[4:35] but what's fascinating to me is that
[4:37] brand searches for Trip Advisor dropped
[4:40] dramatically from roughly 1.4 million
[4:43] searches in June 2019 to now just
[4:46] 443,000 searches that's a huge loss in
[4:50] branded searches now I'm not saying that
[4:52] there's a direct correlation with stock
[4:54] performance and any of these
[4:55] observations but I just thought that
[4:57] these were super interesting things
[4:59] onwards to the 2-year time frame so just
[5:02] like with a 5-year portfolio the 2-year
[5:04] Google stocks portfolio had 16 companies
[5:07] and not to my surprise 12 of them were
[5:10] actually the same from 2019 and because
[5:12] these companies have overall performed
[5:14] pretty well our 2-year Google traffic
[5:17] stocks portfolio returned a massive 42%
[5:20] just behind the NASDAQ 100 and around
[5:23] 12% ahead of the S&P 500 now the biggest
[5:26] winner in our portfolio by far was meta
[5:30] with a
[5:31] 186% gain and let me remind you that
[5:34] meta owns Facebook Instagram and what's
[5:37] app which are three of today's most
[5:40] visited websites in the world generating
[5:42] around 3.5 billion visits from Google
[5:45] search alone and it's quite clear that
[5:48] meta has been making moves in organic
[5:50] search with Facebook 2.5 Xing their
[5:52] organic traffic to over a billion
[5:55] monthly visits Instagram jumping from
[5:58] 740 million to around 1.3 billion
[6:01] monthly organic visits and WhatsApp
[6:04] increasing by just 70 million just 70
[6:08] million and the biggest loss in our
[6:10] portfolio was from Etsy which lost
[6:12] roughly 28% of its stock value and this
[6:15] brings us to our final time frame which
[6:18] was from October 1st 2023 so around 6
[6:22] months ago so out of the top 100
[6:24] websites we found 20 companies that are
[6:26] publicly traded in the US markets now
[6:29] had we ined invested an even amount into
[6:31] each of these stocks we would be up
[6:34] 25.6 3% over just a 6month period which
[6:39] beats every asset except Bitcoin now the
[6:42] biggest winner here was Spotify with a
[6:44] near 67% gain and the biggest loss was
[6:48] from Yelp at around -6% now considering
[6:51] 92% of active large cap fund managers
[6:55] AKA professional investors
[6:57] underperformed the S&P 5 500 it was
[7:00] pretty shocking to see that our free
[7:02] list of top 100 websites by Google
[7:05] traffic could beat the S&P on all three
[7:08] randomly chosen time frames so that begs
[7:11] the question would I pick stocks by
[7:14] using a list of top 100 websites based
[7:16] on Google traffic not a chance there's
[7:20] way too many things that impact movement
[7:22] in stock prices and website traffic
[7:25] probably isn't one of those things now
[7:28] for the average investor whose dollar
[7:30] cost averaging into total Market ETFs
[7:32] good on you I think it makes a lot of
[7:34] sense for the reasons I said before but
[7:36] for those that are going with a more
[7:38] bespoke approach to Stock Investing I do
[7:41] think that web data can provide
[7:42] interesting insights as one of many
[7:44] layers in your due diligence website and
[7:47] search data just give us Clues into
[7:49] where attention and demand are flowing
[7:52] which is so important in today's digital
[7:54] age and even for assets that don't have
[7:57] a single dedicated website like Bitcoin
[8:01] we can see from search volume trends
[8:03] that there's clearly consistent and
[8:05] growing attention flowing there or if we
[8:07] combine the organic metrics to five of
[8:09] the most popular crypto exchanges you'll
[8:12] see that there's been rapid interest and
[8:14] growth in the industry and again while
[8:17] there probably isn't a direct
[8:18] correlation between organic traffic and
[8:20] stock price the one thing that is clear
[8:23] is that the biggest digital companies in
[8:25] the world highly value organic search as
[8:28] a traffic source because once you're
[8:30] ranking traffic is free consistent and
[8:34] it doesn't fade over time now if you

[8:39] SEO course where you'll learn how to get
[8:41] organic traffic to your site even if
