[0:00] If you've been in SEO long enough, I can
bet you that you've used the "inurl" search
[0:04] operator in Google.
[0:05] Well, how powerful would this feature be when
it's used in Ahrefs Content Explorer?
[0:09] You're about to find out in this video.
[0:11] Stay tuned.
[0:11] [music]
[0:15] What's up SEOs?
[0:16] Sam Oh here with Ahrefs, the SEO tool that
helps you grow your search traffic, research
[0:20] your competitors and dominate your niche.
[0:23] Now, if you haven't heard of Content Explorer,
then let me give you the skinny.
[0:26] Content Explorer is a mini search engine
that was made for marketers.
[0:30] You can type in any query and find pages that
contain the word or phrase that you've searched for.
[0:34] Plus, you'll see all of the SEO metrics like
Domain Rating, Referring Domains, Organic
[0:39] Traffic, and more.
[0:40] Our content index is currently at over a billion
pages and growing quite rapidly.
[0:45] Plus, there are a bunch of cool filters here
that will help you refine your data.
[0:49] But hey, we're not here to talk about these
features.
[0:51] We'll be talking specifically about the "inurl"
search operator, which can be used to find
[0:56] pages that contain a word or words within
the URL.
[1:00] Plus, I've sprinkled in a couple tips specifically
for YouTube creators that I have yet to share
[1:04] with anyone else.
[1:06] Let's get to it.
[1:07] The first tactic is to look for new pages
that have generated links fast.
[1:11] Now we all know that quality links are important,
particularly for competitive keyword targets.
[1:16] But sometimes those links are hard to get.
[1:18] But the good news is that there are certain
topics that attract links faster than others.
[1:23] And all you have to do to find these topics
is search for something like "inurl:the
[1:27] current year" and then type "title:your topic." So I'll use "save money" as our example.
[1:34] Next, I'll set the referring domains to a
minimum of 20.
[1:37] And as you can see, we're down to a nice list
of popular topics that were published this year.
[1:42] From here, you can manually review the pages and see if there are commonalities among the topics.
[1:47] For this particular example, you'll see that
"saving money" in the health industry seemed
[1:50] to be a popular topic, which would be worth
looking into.
[1:54] The next tactic is to find old posts with links and steal them, which is commonly referred to
[1:59] as the Skyscraper Technique.
[2:00] All we need to do is make a slight modification
to our current query.
[2:04] And the great thing about Content Explorer
is that you can search for multiple variations
[2:08] by creating a "group."
[2:09] So I'll remove the current year and write
within parentheses (2015 OR 2014 OR 2013 OR
[2:15] 2012) or whatever is considered out of date
and then run the search.
[2:20] Next, I'll change the referring domains filter,
and set a minimum value here to something
[2:24] decently high like 20.
[2:26] And you can see that we now have a small,
but nice list of great pages.
[2:31] So from here, we can click on the caret for
each of these pages, go to the backlink reports,
[2:36] then contact relevant prospects and build
some quality links.
[2:39] The next tactic is to find sites that will
likely accept your infographic.
[2:43] Now the logic behind this query is to find
pages that have previously posted an infographic
[2:48] in your niche.
[2:49] And doing that in Content Explorer is super
easy and you'll see in a second that the results
[2:54] are super relevant too.
[2:55] Here's how it's done.
[2:57] Just type "inurl:infographic title:infographic"
and then a broad topic related to your niche.
[3:04] So I'll type in "fitness."
[3:05] Next, I'll hit the "One article per domain"
filter since we don't need to pitch our infographic
[3:09] to the same site multiple times.
[3:12] And now we have a large list of unique domains
that clearly like infographics enough to create
[3:17] a dedicated post for them.
[3:19] From here, you can pitch these sites with
your graphic and get a relatively easy editorial
[3:23] backlink to your site.
[3:24] The next tactic is to find guest posting opportunities
with supreme relevance.
[3:28] Now we talk a lot about finding guest posting
opportunities with Content Explorer.
[3:32] But I'm sure some of you might hesitate to
contact websites that don't have a "Write for
[3:36] Us" page, especially if you're new to guest
blogging.
[3:39] But here's the thing.
[3:40] Most websites don't have a "Write for Us" page,
but they still accept guest posts.
[3:45] Let me prove it to you.
[3:46] Just type "inurl:" and then within parentheses
add "guest-post" OR "guest-blog" OR "guest-author",
[3:53] close the bracket, and then add your topic.
[3:56] Next, I'll use the "One article per domain"
filter again for obvious reasons.
[4:00] And we now have nearly 400 websites that are clearly
accepting guest posts and I bet that only
[4:06] a fraction of these sites have a "Write for
Us" page.
[4:09] So now, you can approach these people confidently
and likely get a higher hit rate, assuming
[4:14] that your pitch is solid.
[4:15] Now, there are two important things to note:
[4:17] #1. Depending on your industry, different slugs
may be better than others so you may want
[4:22] to try other footprints too.
[4:24] And #2. You don't need to limit yourself to websites
that have previously accepted guest posts.
[4:29] If you're offering free content and it's actually
good, then why wouldn't the vast majority
[4:33] of people accept it?
[4:34] The next tactic is to find resource pages.
[4:37] Now resource page link building is one of
the easiest tactics to do.
[4:41] These pages are generally chalk-full of links
on a specific topic.
[4:44] Here's how you can find them using the "inurl"
feature.
[4:47] Just type "inurl:resources" and then add a
topic using the "title" search operator.
[4:52] From here, you'll have to filter through the
results since the word "resources" can be
[4:56] used in so many different contexts.
[4:58] But the great thing about doing this in Content
Explorer is that you can cherry-pick high-quality
[5:02] websites by using the "Domain Rating" filter.
[5:05] And Domain Rating is a numerical representation
of a website's overall link profile.
[5:10] So I'll set it to only show sites that have
a Domain Rating of at least 50.
[5:14] And from here, you can quickly assess whether
these pages would likely be good candidates
[5:18] to contact.
[5:19] The next tactic will help you find interview
opportunities.
[5:22] Now aside from great exposure for your brand, getting interviewed comes with a few SEO benefits too.
[5:28] #1. You don't need to spend hours, days or weeks
creating and promoting your content.
[5:33] That's the job of the host and their team.
[5:36] And #2. I can almost guarantee you that as you're
getting interviewed, resources from your website
[5:41] will get mentioned, which will result in links
like this.
[5:45] And at the very least, you'll get a home page
link.
[5:47] Here's how you find these interview opportunities.
[5:49] Start with "inurl:interview-with" and then "title:"
and the name of an influencer in your niche.
[5:57] Now, the results are pretty small, but they're hyper-relevant to exactly what you'd want to see.
[6:02] You could expand this search by trying just
"inurl:interview" or by using other industry
[6:07] names in your space.
[6:08] The next tactic is to find YouTubers that
would be worthy collaboration partners.
[6:13] If you're unfamiliar with collaborations,
then you should definitely pay attention.
[6:16] These are huge in the YouTube Creator space.
[6:19] They're basically the equivalent to doing
a guest post, but instead, it's a "guest video."
[6:23] So how do you find these channels that will
move the needle for your channel?
[6:26] Start by typing "site:youtube.com", which will
narrow down the results to just pages on YouTube.
[6:32] Next, type "inurl:channel", which will narrow
the results down to just channels.
[6:38] Finally, finish it off with "title:your topic".
[6:41] So I'll use "gaming" as our example.
[6:43] From here, you'll want to find popular YouTubers
in your space.
[6:46] And the easiest way to do that is to sort
the results by "search traffic" in descending order.
[6:51] What you'll find is that these channels' keyword
rankings are almost always for branded queries.
[6:55] Which lets us safely assume that if search
traffic is high, then they likely have an
[7:00] authentic and decently large subscriber base.
[7:03] So go and pitch some of these channels within
your league, offer them value, and get collaborating.
[7:08] The final tactic that I want to share with
you is awesome.
[7:11] And to the best of my knowledge, no other
tool on the planet can do this.
[7:15] The tactic is what I like to call the "Double
Dipping Technique."
[7:17] Here we go.
[7:18] YouTube is a huge search engine, and you can
definitely get a ton of traffic organically
[7:23] through their platform alone.
[7:24] But there are also a lot of videos that rank
in Google Search Engine Results Pages.
[7:29] So why not create topics where you can get
traffic from both?
[7:32] Or double dip...
[7:33] Let's assume that I have a DIY gardening channel.
[7:36] Here's what I would search for in Content
Explorer.
[7:38] "site:youtube.com" then "inurl:watch", and then
"gardening."
[7:43] And I'm using "inurl:watch" to exclude things
like channels and subdomains from YouTube.
[7:48] Next, I'll sort these videos in descending
order by search traffic.
[7:51] Now, check this out!
[7:53] This video on how to grow mushrooms apparently
gets 10,000 visitors per month from Google.
[7:58] And clicking through, you'll see that it has
over 900,000 views.
[8:02] Scrolling down in Content Explorer, you'll
see some other great topic ideas that have
[8:06] "double dipping" potential.
[8:07] Now use any relevant topics to get traffic
from the world's largest search engine and
[8:12] potentially double, triple or even 10X your
YouTube views.
[8:15] As you can see, these 5 letters alone can
produce powerful results for your SEO and
[8:20] marketing efforts.
[8:22] So I highly recommend logging in and giving
them a shot.
[8:24] Now if you enjoyed this video, make sure to
like, share, and subscribe. And I'd love to
[8:29] know what you thought about these tactics
or if I'm on the only one here that's super
[8:32] pumped about these.
[8:34] So keep grinding away, don't use the last
tactic in the SEO and marketing niche,
[8:38] and I'll see you in the next video.
