[0:00] Did you know Ahrefs has free SEO tools? [0:04] Well, in this tutorial I'm going to show you five of our best free SEO tools and how you [0:09] can use them together to actually improve SEO for your site. [0:12] Stay tuned. [0:13] [music] [0:18] So over the past year we've released around 14 free SEO tools, most of which can be found [0:23] in the footer of our website. [0:25] Now, because I know you love workflows and processes, this tutorial is going to show you [0:30] how to use them together and hopefully gain some traction from organic search. [0:34] So let's kick this off with our first free SEO tool that'll help you keep your site [0:38] in good health. [0:40] And that's Ahrefs' Webmaster Tools or AWT. [0:43] AWT includes two of our core tools and will work for any websites you own. [0:48] The first tool is Site audit, which will scan your website for over 100 technical and on-page SEO [0:54] issues and organize them into digestible reports. [0:58] Now, I've already verified our site and ran an audit for ahrefs.com. [1:02] So let's head over to the Overview report. [1:04] Here you can see things like your website's health score, which represents the percentage [1:08] of URLs that don't have errors, and you'll also see a list of the top issues right below that. [1:15] Now, if you're unsure of what to do with these issues, we also provide details on what the issues are [1:21] and how to fix them. [1:22] So let's say you wanted to fix pages that link out to broken pages. [1:26] To see the URLs, just click the number, and you'll be taken to Page Explorer, which shows [1:31] the affected URLs and the broken pages they link out to. [1:36] Just export the results and now it's just a matter of removing or replacing those broken links. [1:42] Now, a great feature in Site Audit is that you can set up scheduled audits on a weekly basis. [1:47] And this allows you to monitor changes that are happening on your site starting from your [1:52] second audit. [1:53] So looking at the second audit for ahrefs.com, you'll see the change in the number of URLs [1:58] for each issue, the number of new cases, as well as the number of URLs that no longer [2:04] have the issue. [2:06] Stay on top of your weekly audits and you'll be on your way to a healthier site. [2:11] The second tool in AWT is Site Explorer, which gives you backlink and search traffic data. [2:17] So let's go to the dashboard and I'll click on our verified project which will bring us [2:21] to the Overview Page. [2:23] On this page, you can see top-level metrics for your website like Domain Rating, total backlinks, [2:29] total referring domains, which are just unique websites that link to you, the number of keywords [2:34] your site ranks for, and the estimated search traffic to your website. [2:39] And right below that is an interactive graph that shows how fast you're acquiring backlinks [2:43] from unique websites, which is a good indicator of your website's popularity on the web. [2:49] Let's head over to the backlinks report. [2:51] Here you can see all of the pages that link to your website. [2:55] And we also provide helpful metrics on the linking pages and domains like website and [3:00] page authority values, the number of referring domains it has, estimated search traffic to that [3:05] page, and the context of the link, which is super convenient. [3:10] You can also use these filters to drill down on specific data sets or export up to 1,000 [3:15] backlinks if you prefer to work in Google Sheets or Excel. [3:19] Site Explorer also allows you to see the keywords your website ranks for. [3:23] Just go to the Organic Keywords report and you'll see the keywords you're ranking for, [3:28] their search volumes, keyword difficulty scores, and the positions we saw these pages ranking [3:34] in on these dates. [3:36] And again, we have some awesome filters you can use to find ways to improve your site's visibility. [3:42] For example, let's say you wanted to find opportunities to rank for featured snippets. [3:46] To do that, just set the Positions filter with a minimum ranking position of two [3:51] and a maximum of seven. [3:54] Then click the SERP features filter, and select Featured snippet, which will narrow down [3:59] the results to keywords where a featured snippet was on the search engine results page. [4:04] And as you can see, we have quite a few keywords where we could go after featured snippets [4:09] for more search traffic. [4:11] Now, if you want to see who you're competing against for these keywords, just click the SERP [4:15] button to see the top 10 ranking pages along with their SEO metrics, which is very helpful [4:20] to understand ranking difficulty. [4:23] Now, there are tons of use cases I could go through, but we still have four other tools [4:27] to get to. [4:28] We've also created a video on AWT that goes into more detail, so I'll leave a link to that [4:33] in the description. [4:34] Now, AWT only lets you see data on your own site which is critical in making optimizations [4:39] for your site. [4:41] But it won't necessarily help with link building. [4:43] And that leads us nicely into our next free SEO tool, which is Ahrefs Backlink Checker. [4:49] With our free Backlink Checker tool, you can see the top 100 backlinks pointing at a URL [4:54] or domain. [4:55] So let's say you found this page on coffee statistics, and discovered that the data was [5:00] super out-of-date. [5:01] Now, to see if there's an opportunity to be had, the first thing you'd want to do is check [5:06] and see if the page actually has backlinks pointing at it. [5:10] To do that, you can paste that coffee stats URL into the free Backlink Checker tool. [5:16] And as you can see, there are around 660 unique websites that are linking to that page! [5:22] And seeing as the backlinks look decent, you can create your own page on the topic [5:27] and reach out to relevant websites and ask them to link to you instead. [5:31] Alright, the next tool is Ahrefs' Keyword Generator. [5:35] This tool lets you find keyword ideas for search engines like Google, Bing, YouTube, and Amazon. [5:42] Just select your search engine and enter a broad keyword related to your niche. [5:47] Let's go with "routers" and search through US data. [5:50] We'll then show you the top 100 keywords that include your phrase along with search volumes [5:55] and keyword difficulty scores for the top 10 keywords. [6:00] Now, if you're looking for just keywords for blog posts, then click the Questions tab, [6:04] which will show keywords that contain your target keyword phrased as a question. [6:09] This query, "how long do routers last," looks promising with a low KD and high search volume. [6:16] But what do we do with this now? [6:18] That's where the next free SEO tool comes into play. [6:20] And that's SERP Checker. [6:22] SERP Checker shows you the top 10 rankings plus the SEO metrics for the top 3 pages. [6:28] And beyond metrics, you can see non-personalized search results from 171 countries. [6:35] So let's search for "how long do routers last" with the US set as our country again. [6:40] From here you can use the DR, UR and Referring Domains metrics to assess ranking difficulty [6:46] and look at the estimated traffic to these pages to gauge traffic potential. [6:51] I talk quite a bit about keyword analysis in our keyword research tutorials, so I'll [6:56] link those up in the description. [6:58] So now that we've covered SEO tools for technical SEO, link building, and keyword research, [7:03] the last one is useful for a bunch of different SEO tasks. [7:07] And that tool is Ahrefs' SEO Toolbar. [7:11] If you're familiar with this tool, then you know that people with a premium plan can [7:14] see cool things like keyword metrics and SEO metrics right within Google Search. [7:20] Plus, you can see both page- and domain-level SEO metrics while you browse any page. [7:26] But what you may not know is that we have quite a few free features in here where no [7:31] account is required. [7:33] After you've installed the toolbar, visit any page and you can see redirect paths [7:37] and HTTP headers for the page. [7:40] You can click this link icon, which will then scan the page you're on for broken outgoing links. [7:46] Click this icon for a full on-page SEO report. [7:50] And then this second link icon will show you a breakdown of the types of outgoing links. [7:56] Now, these are just five of the free SEO tools we have at Ahrefs, and they're great when you're [8:00] just starting out. [8:02] And I've left links in the description to all of the tools that I've mentioned so try [8:06] them out, pair them together and get your pages ranking higher in search. [8:11] Now, if you enjoyed this video, make sure to like, share, and subscribe for more actionable [8:15] SEO and marketing tutorials. [8:17] I'll see you in the next one.
