[0:00] In this video, I'm gonna show you two
super cool tactics to find thousands of
[0:03] guest blogging opportunities and an
extremely effective technique to find
[0:08] low competition keywords using Content Explorer.
[0:11] Plus, I'll show you one bonus tip on finding highly
[0:14] relevant influencers in your niche.
[0:16] Stay tuned!
[0:17] [Music]
[0:21] Hey everyone, it's Sam Oh here with Ahrefs.
[0:24] First things first, we need to talk about Content Explorer.
[0:27] What is Content Explorer anyway?
[0:29] Content Explorer is one tool within Ahrefs' SEO toolset.
[0:33] It's basically a mini search engine that's
[0:35] extremely helpful for SEOs and marketers.
[0:38] Right now, our content index is at about
[0:40] 870 million pages and we're constantly
updating these metrics with fresh data.
[0:44] Plus we find about 5 million new pages
each day, so it's just constantly growing.
[0:50] At this point, I'm gonna stop flexing our
big data muscles and let's just jump
[0:54] right into these cool SEO tactics.
[0:56] The first hack is a way to find thousands of
[0:58] guest blogging sites with Content Explorer.
[1:00] So first, you go to the Content Explorer tool
[1:03] and then you'll type in a keyword phrase
that's closely related to your industry.
[1:07] So for example, I might type in something
like 'video marketing' as a phrase match.
[1:11] And here, you can see that there are
about 77,000 highly relevant results.
[1:16] You can see that there are
multiple articles from the same sites,
[1:20] but all we need right now is a
list of unique websites to guest post for.
[1:24] So you can use this filter right
here, one article per domain, which is
[1:28] going to give us only the unique
domains that match our search query.
[1:32] Now we're down to about 19,000 results.
[1:34] Next, you're gonna want to set one more filter and
[1:37] that's the 'highlight unlinked domains' filter.
[1:40] If you click here, then you can enter in your domain.
[1:42] So I'll just type in my own personal
domain, moneyjournal.com,
[1:47] and click 'highlight'.
[1:48] Content Explorer will then highlight only the
domains that have never linked to you.
[1:53] In general, earning backlinks from websites
[1:56] that have never linked yours, it's
gonna bring you more value than a
[1:59] second, third, or even fourth link from
previously linking domains.
[2:03] So basically, the highlight unlinked domains
filter, it's gonna save you a ton of time from
[2:07] pitching websites that you already have links from
[2:09] and that you might not actually know about.
[2:12] So in this case, I probably wouldn't pitch
[2:14] Buffer, Entrepreneur, Contently,
[2:19] Top Rank Blog, and a few others.
[2:21] Finally, you can hit the export button to
get all of these results in a spreadsheet.
[2:25] Just make sure that this checkbox
here is selected to only export
[2:29] the unlinked websites and click the start export button.
[2:33] From here, you can start pitching the different websites
[2:35] that are blogging about your topic.
[2:38] Now, if you've never posted a single guest
post before, you may want to try pitching
[2:42] websites that aren't as "high profile"
[2:44] so that you can get some experience, refine your pitch,
[2:47] and find what works for you.
[2:48] You can do that by setting the domain rating filter
[2:50] to something with a maximum DR of around 30.
[2:54] And a lot of these sites are more likely to
accept your pitch since they probably
[2:57] don't have hundreds of requests coming in each day,
[3:00] like a lot of the bigger sites that
you might want to write for.
[3:03] Alright, so another cool way to find guest posting
[3:05] opportunities is to 'stalk' the people you're constantly
[3:09] seeing popping up on other blogs.
[3:11] And I'm using air quotes here on 'stalk' because I don't
[3:14] literally mean to stalk them in that sense.
[3:17] So the way that you do that in Content Explorer
[3:20] is by using the search operator, "author:"
and then the name of the blogger.
[3:24] So I'll use Kristi Hines as an example, since I know that
[3:27] she's written about topics like social
media marketing and video marketing.
[3:32] And there are about 250 results here.
[3:34] From here, you can use the same filters as I
[3:36] did in the previous example, so I'll set
it to one article per domain,
[3:41] and then use the highlight unlinked
domains feature with my domain.
[3:45] And finally, I'll click highlight.
[3:49] You can then export it, making sure that this
[3:51] checkbox is checked and we are done.
[3:54] This works particularly well if you are a
[3:56] solopreneur or if you have a small
team of content creators.
[3:59] Using the 'author' search operator,
it's a really good trick to use
[4:03] because it's basically proof of results, right?
[4:05] The people you're searching for here are likely guest
[4:08] authors. It's not like they own
every blog that they write on.
[4:11] So, even if they don't have a 'write for us' page,
they're clearly accepting guest blogging articles.
[4:17] Pretty cool, right?
[4:18] Alright, so let's move on to a really unconventional way
[4:21] to come up with new content ideas.
[4:23] And this keyword research tip that I'm about
[4:25] to show you, is a super cool way to find
[4:27] extremely low competition
topics with high traffic potential.
[4:32] And you're gonna love this because it's a data-driven approach with a little proof of concept.
[4:37] Okay? So here's how it's done.
[4:39] So again search for a pretty generic
[4:41] keyword related to your industry.
[4:43] So I'll use gardening as an example.
[4:45] And since we know that quality
backlinks help you rank in Google,
[4:48] and that the overall strength of a website's
backlink profile can help your pages rank too,
[4:52] we can set two filters to find low competition keywords.
[4:55] The first filter that we're going
to set is the "referring domains."
[4:59] And we'll set it to only find results with a
[5:01] maximum of zero referring domains,
so no linking websites at all.
[5:05] Then we'll set gonna set is the organic traffic filter
[5:07] to have a minimum of a thousand
search visitors per month.
[5:10] Now, when you try this, you
might have to play around with the
[5:13] numbers a little bit, but since gardening is a pretty big
[5:16] topic and there's nearly 600,000 results here
[5:19] in the Content Explorer results,
[5:21] you know, I'd say that it's a pretty good number here.
[5:23] After we set the final filter, you'll see that
[5:25] there are over a hundred pages that have
[5:27] zero referring domains and they get over
a thousand search visitors per month
[5:31] like this one.
[5:33] This one here: "171 inspirational
gardening quotes and sayings."
[5:37] Content Explorer shows that
they get 1,400 organic search
[5:40] visitors each month from this post alone.
[5:43] And if I click on the details button and
[5:45] then the organic keywords, you can see
the keywords and SERP positions that this
[5:50] page is ranking for.
[5:51] So you'll see that they rank for 'garden quotes' which
[5:53] has a search volume of 4500 and they're
currently in position 5 and there's
[5:58] 'gardening quotes' which has 2,700
searches per month and currently in
[6:02] position 6, and so on and so forth.
[6:05] You get the point, right?
[6:07] Now, if you run a gardening blog then this might
be a good topic to cover and it probably wouldn't
[6:11] take too many links or any at all
to outrank these pages.
[6:14] And to put the cherry on the top,
[6:16] you'll see that this one has a pretty
low to medium domain rating of 44.
[6:21] And, if you keep going through this
list, there are a ton of really low
[6:25] competition keywords you can start
creating content around.
[6:28] Like this one here.
[6:29] This one ranks for 'succulent care',
(I'm not sure if I said that right), but it
[6:34] has 9,300 searches per month and ranks
in position 5 right now.
[6:39] When Tim showed me this hack, I knew
that I had to use it and I've gotten some
[6:43] pretty insane results like, I've ranked
on page one in Google in three days from
[6:47] publishing the article and I can't
remember the exact numbers now but I
[6:51] think that page that I'm thinking of
gets around 500-600 visitors per month
[6:55] from like only a couple weeks
in publishing with zero links.
[7:00] Now, one more bonus hack if you're interested in
[7:02] doing some influencer marketing and prospecting.
[7:04] So within Content Explorer, you
can actually find influencers who
[7:08] might be interested in the content that you're creating.
[7:11] So if we search for 'link building', then you'll see that
Content Explorer finds over 75,000
[7:17] articles related to the topic.
[7:19] And this article looks interesting here.
[7:21] How long does link building
take to influence rankings?
[7:24] And since we have a ton of data here at Ahrefs
[7:27] and some of our own unique case studies like this one
[7:30] on how long it takes to rank
in Google, basically the same topic,
[7:33] we could probably find some influencers
who would be interested in our research.
[7:37] You'll see that this post has just over 500
Twitter shares. And if we click on the
[7:42] who tweeted button, we can see all of the unique
people who have shared this article on Twitter.
[7:47] From here, you can click any of the columns to sort
[7:50] by the tweet date, the total number of tweets on
the account, the number of people they're
[7:54] following, the total number of followers
they have, which might be interesting or
[7:58] the total number of lists.
[8:00] I'm sure we could find some pretty influential
[8:02] people who would be interested in some unique
data and share the article with them.
[8:07] Now, if we go back to the search results page,
you can actually select a few of the
[8:11] articles from here too. So I'll just choose these
ones here for demonstration purposes.
[8:16] And then if we scroll back to
the top, we can click the 'who tweeted
[8:20] selected articles' button to get an even
bigger list of prospects that we could
[8:24] then reach out to.
[8:26] So I hope you found
this SEO tutorial helpful and that
[8:29] you'll start using Content Explorer to
find some solid guest blogging
[8:32] opportunities and find those low
competition keywords that no
[8:36] keyword research tool could ever find.
[8:38] Now give me a thumbs up if you like this
