析经济学人，习高分作文/04

做学生就多考分，做成人就多挣钱，这样尊严才可以多一点。

——我离托福考试只剩22天。

周五早上好，推荐一个优质的学习托福网站：http://yaofeihu.com/。 恩是姚飞虎的个人网站，一位小马托福元老级别的口语老师。

推荐原因在于，他花了大半年的时间，将TPO（Toefl Practice Online) 所有的综合口语部分，对话和讲座的听力全部写了带发音标注版的文本，然后录了视频讲解，总共48套TPO，每套综合口语有六道。

还有2011-2017年的全年独立口语串讲，质量很高，昨晚我熬夜看完了2015年的，精神振奋，觉得自己口语有救了。

2016年时，他和几位其他托福老师在微博上做了免费活动，我曾参加过一段时间，但是那时候实力太差，完全赶不上作业进度。现在才知道珍惜了。

举个例子相对比，另一个也写了很多文章的口语老师那天，知乎上几篇学习指导全是个人照片。人很强，但是太虚。许多其他文章也是。

我一直觉得，互联网时代，太多好资源了，可以下载那么多书籍，看大神分享的文字，感觉真是读书人的天堂。

于是自己也致力于写高质量的免费文字，然后大浪淘沙，市场决定生存，活下来的都是强者。

虽然有人说：

- - 有些人虽然读了很多文章，但他们仅仅是泛泛而读，没有对其中出现的知识点进行归纳总结，这样读完后记不住东西，自然也就无法应用。阅读材料的选择也是一个问题。如果读的东西太杂，今天读一篇散文，明天读一篇小说，后天再读一篇新闻，这样也不利于形成体系化的知识。

- - 读书读得太杂，这里补一点，那里找一点，不易于形成系统的体系，导致的结果是脑袋里思想混乱，知识点杂乱堆积，对其他领域只知皮毛，只能是漏洞百出。

但是有书可读，然后引发思考，总比整天发呆，本来就条件不足，又没有好的观念和材料来引导，那就更不如了。

我是觉得，刚开始读东西，都是很杂乱的，然后读书看报见多，才有经验辨别哪些质量高，对不对胃口，慢慢自己就会顺藤摸瓜，因为有些水平很高的作者会参考其他的优质书籍，这样就找到自己喜欢阅读的类型了，坚持下去多了就自己会总结出个系统化的理论。

这是我读中文书的想法，英文书还涉猎太少，因为读书速度慢，量没上去。

下面进入正题。

devise: plan or invent a new way of doing something

She devise a method for quicker communications between officers.

刚开始读到划线部分时，我相当疑惑：这个 attorney-general 中间的横线是干嘛的？said 这种形式，要么是过去分词做状语，要么是过去式做谓语动词，但是主语呢？

第一次查时没弄明白，猜测大概是general的缘故。

刚刚又查了下字典，general 做名词指 [陆军或空军的] 上将，做形容词性用的比较多，在最后一列有个 the Attorney General 短语，是司法部长。

那这样就容易理解了，这是一个连接线合成词，said+后面的词 做状语，可以修改为定语从句 an attorney-general that is  said to have been preparing charges against him.

Mr trump's allies say he can do what he likes under the law. Both sides want to shred the conventions governing the Oval Office.

shred: to cut or tear sth. into long thin pieces

这里就是打破传统的意思了。

There is not a shred of truth in what he says.
他说的全是骗人的鬼话。

That is why so much hope has rested with Matteo Renzi, the young prime minister.

if a decision rests with someone, they are responsible for it.

rest 是放松休息的意思，stop working or doing and sit down or lie down

那就是尘埃落定了，最后的决定由掌权者做出后便不再更改，希望落在被期待的人身上。

Too much expectations rest with children.

这是两句话，第二句比较长，算是长难句，有两个that，就是两个从句。

加粗的句型可以先记一下， 这是个雪上加霜的写法。

然后分析长难句：

And any secondary benefits are outweighed by drawbacks-above all the risk that, in seeking to halt the instability that has given Italy 65 governments since 1945, it creates an elected strongman.

两个句子，两种颜色。划线部分在前，是主句。

如果分析句子结构的话，从句都可以删去，但在意思上是作为补充部分。

That might make sense, except for the fact that the struggle to pass laws is not Italy's biggest problem.

这句话是整篇文章的最后一段开头，堪称临走时还补上一刀。

这让我想到了另一个句型：

....... may seem paraxdical at the first glance, but upon further reflection, as soon as ... is concerned, as soon as ... is put into consideration, as soon as ...is taken into account..., it makes sense.

其实这是两个句型哈，我把它俩糅合到一块了，然后自己加了点内容，这个排比句实在是气贯长虹。
