析经济学人，习高分作文/01

这几周品读的经济学人都是2016年11月26日到12月2日的，封面如上。

The government's muddled apporach tp Brexit ties the chancellor's hands.

muddle: vt to put things up into an untidy state or the wrong order

            jumble / disarrange / disorder / disorganize / mess / scramble / spoil / tangle

这句其实直译也很容易理解，手被绑住了肯定就活动不自然了，受约束的意思。

句型： 

        tie sb's hands/arms/legs/feet  把某人的手/胳膊/腿/脚绑起来

        sb's hands are tied 某人能受到约束 [因而无能为力]

        The bank claims its hands are tied by federal regulations.

Bankers look forward to dancing around a bonfire of rulebooks.

bonfire: a large fire built outside for burning waste. 

People also have bonfires at parties or celebrations.

在写有游戏规则的书籍燃烧的篝火旁跳舞，可以说是很形象了，意思就是犯规呗。

句型：

        dance around a bonfire of rulebooks

Within Germany there was joy among right-wing populists, who relish the chance to run against the chancellor, whom they blame for allowing large numbers of refugees into the country.

relish: vt  to get great pleasure or satisfaction from something

        enjoy / delight in / fancy / like / revel in / savour

这不算个句型，在单词里没有独列出来，只是觉得这个很好用。

句型：

        relish the chance to do

A court in New York convicted two nephews of Venezuela's First Lady, Cilia Flores, of conspiring to bring cocaine into Ametrica.

这里来认识两个新单词。

convict: to prove in a court of law that someone is guilty of a crime 

            find guilty / condemn / imprision / pronounce guilty / sentence

            There was insufficient evidence to convict him.

conspire: to secretly plan with someone to do something bad or illegal

                plot / contrive / intrigue / machinate / manoeuvre / plan / scheme

                All things consipred towards the present dilemma.

一个是宣告有罪，一个是密谋策划。

今日总结：

tie one's hands 受约束

dance around a bonfire of rulebooks 在规则边缘上躁动

relish the chance to do 抓住机会

convict & conspire = imprision & plan
