   The Elements of Style》

第二章《Elementary Principles of Composition》笔记:

Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kindom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteoueness for they shall be filled.

关联词beth....and; not....but; not only.....but also; either....or; first, second, third等所连接的句子语法结构应该相同。

A dog, if you fail to discipline him, becomes a household pest.

修正:

Unless disciplined, a dog becomes a household pest.

There was a stir in the audience that suggested disapproval.

修正:

A stir that suggested disapproval swept the audience.

She only found two mistakes.

She found only two mistakes.

There are two kinds of mindsets, in which I am not saying about the certain mindset and the growth mindset. I am talking about the seeking mindset and the living mindset, among which, the first one could be called seekers, the are always finding some answers, questions, what so ever; the second is just lead a life, do what they suppose are doing. I have no idea which one I belong to, maybe the first one. But no one is only one type of characters. We combine many features as get involved in many things, no matter you want or are wanted.

Sometimes the best answer may be just keep going, even if you are hungry, even if you do not know why. There are no reasons behind everything. Staying fool could be the better choice. It seems you run. Seconds flow through your mind while you have to run, to move your two leg, to swim your two arms so as to feel the wind flow through you body, ears, mouth and eyes.

Run untill you are tired. Then nothing worths worrying.

Tomorrow, you still have to face the shitty matters, trapped into emotional problems, lost in sorrowness. However yuu know that, that it will eventually be gone. You can achieve in this moment, you can do what you are doing now.

Nothing is big deal. It is how you think that matters.

Let those fucking questions swept away.

The past gone, the future worthy.

Love the poems, read aloud.

In Spite of War

By Angela Morgan

In spite of war, in spite of death,
In spite of all man's sufferings,
Something within me laughs and sings
And I must praise with all my breath.
In spite of war, in spite of hate
Lilacs are blooming at my gate,
Tulips are tripping down the path
In spite of war, in spite of wrath.
"Courage!" the morning-glory saith;
"Rejoice!" the daisy murmureth,
And just to live is so divine
When pansies lift their eyes to mine.

The clouds are romping with the sea,
And flashing waves call back to me
That naught is real but what is fair,
That everywhere and everywhere
A glory liveth through despair.
Though guns may roar and cannon boom,
Roses are born and gardens bloom;
My spirit still may light its flame
At that same torch whence poppies came.
Where morning's altar whitely burns
Lilies may lift their silver urns
In spite of war, in spite of shame.

And in my ear a whispering breath,
"Wake from the nightmare! Look and see
That life is naught but ecstasy
In spite of war, in spite of death!"
